What Is a “Pastor”?
Today I want to teach about a pastor in the church. Meaning of pastor is a Christian minister or priest having spiritual charge over a congregation or other group. A pastor is someone who has spiritual care over a congregation. The English word occurs only once in the Bible in Eph. 4:11, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers.”
The word in Greek is poimen and literally means shepherd. Therefore, a pastor is a shepherd of God’s flock who is to instruct, teach, and protect the people under his charge. Also the Timothy, every pastor is an elder and every elder has a pastor’s heart. The most important duty of a pastor is to work hard at preaching and teaching. By his sermons and his teaching, he shows his love to God and to the congregation.
Pastors are natural role models. By using biblical standards to model how pastors live, love and lead, others will gain insights on how to exercise their own faith.
consequently, we need to deepen our relationship with the God through prayer that results in an intimate relationship with Him. The pastor in the church is about servant leadership. Jesus came to serve and not to be served. He came to offer His life as sacrifice. Therefore pastor is a follower of Jesus.
